The old saying, “They don’t make them like they used to” is the cold truth, especially when referring to refrigerators. It usually makes the most sense to fix your refrigerator, especially if it’s only a minor repair. This is in large part to the fact that the average useful life of a newer refrigerator is less than older models.

Refrigerator and freezer repair are also typically less expensive than replacing (and don’t forget in addition to the purchase price, you also have the added costs of tax, shipping, installation and extraction of the old appliance.) Also, by repairing your current model you can avoid adding another appliance to the landfill.

The normal temperature of a residential refrigerator is about 38° F and for a residential freezer, it is typically about 0° F. Your control settings should be set at the midpoint setting to achieve these temperatures. If you have to adjust your controls beyond the normal settings to achieve these temperatures, you may have an underlying problem.

When you notice the temperature in your fridge isn’t what it used to be, you have reason to be concerned. There could be a number of issues that explain why your refrigerator stopped cooling. There might be a problem with a thermostat, a leak in the refrigerant, or a bad or blocked fan. It may also be a problem with the main control boards. Each of these issues could occur at about the same rate. An experienced technician can inspect the issue, identify solutions, and fix your fridge in no time.
